Eaves Ranch
Bambi Cantrell, our wedding photographer, is in town to teach a photography class at Santa Fe Workshops next week. We convinced her that she needed some rest and that our home would be the perfect place to get the necessary rest.
This morning we went for a “fun-photo-shoot” to the Eaves Ranch just outside of Santa Fe.
So, this place is a real movie ranch and has been the set for a number of different Western Movies in the past. “Silverado“, “The Cheyenne Social Club“, “Butch & Sundance: The Early Days” are, for example, among those movies.
While it is not heavily used for movies these days, it is a perfect location for photography classes from Santa Fe Workshops. Bambi told us, that she had been there before and wanted to use the Saturday morning to go back to the Ranch and work the camera before she has to go teach the class next week.
We arrived at about 9:45am this morning and were surprised to find the place closed. Luckily, “Danny” is there. I talk to Danny and he tells me that the place has been closed for renovation and will not reopen until Tuesday next week - bummer. After some whining and explaining, Danny decides to let us in. He clears it with his boss and we are allowed to stay for an hour in the fake town.
Hey Danny, if you ever read this: Thank you so much, again!!! You’re a hell of a nice guy!

Soon after we are allowed in town, a Canon 1D and a Canon D30 look for photo opportunities. Candice and Frisco roam around and become model every now and then. Frisco finds some really great mouse-jerky …

The town is cute and really looks like a Western Town: There’s a Saloon, Sherriff’s office plus jail, a Chruch, a Bank and whatever else belongs into this sort of town. Unfortunately the weather is not optimal and the light is flat - no higlights or shadows. Still, Bambi and I shoot about 60-80 images in the hour we are there.
When we inspect them back home, we find some really nice ones in each batch.
Here are a few selected from my batch:
Oh, and after some PhotoShopping it ends up in this, which is something Candice likes a lot more than the original above. She said: “Add a guitar and you have an album cover …”

Beautiful pictures, beautiful setting, beautiful woman…..Nice stop here…I live near the ranch, and it is nice to see this…..
