Evening Lightshow

Last night we had again a most spectacular thunderstorm over Los Alamos in the distance.

It all started earlier in the evening with some massive thunderstorms all around the house. So lightning struck pretty close to our home and the rolling thunder made the house shake several times. Candice was on the phone with Selina when one them struck and Selina was quite surprised to hear thunder that loud over the phone.

Once the sun was down, we could see two competing thunderstorms in the north and north-west (over Los Alamos). I took the camera, put it on the tripod, set it on long-time exposure (20 secs +) and aimed in the direction of the thunderstorms.
I only took six different frames and the fact that I managed to get lighting on five of them, should tell you how frequently we saw flashes out here. Very spectacular.
The pictures also show that I’m using a digital camera, because they tend to become very “noisy” during exposures longer than a few secs. It seems that the CMOS in the camera simply heats up and some of those pixels “think” they’ve seen light. This is the time when I wish I still had a “normal” camera.
