Santa Fe is drying up. It has not rained in a week and we are supposed to be in “Monsoon-season” right now. Candice, Frisco and I have not seen a large body of water since we went to Lake Nambe a few weeks ago. This weekend we have the pleasure to join Pam and Joe on a trip to Lake Abiquiu.
On Saturday morning we pack the dog into the car and drive the down to the Las Campanas area where we are going to meet Pam and Joe at their house.
On the way up to the lake we will pick up the boat. The 6-cyl Cherokee would not be strong enough to pull the trailer with a 3500 pound boat, so it is a wise decision to take the Suburban up there.
After moving our stuff into Pam and Joe’s car we leave for Tesuque where we plan to pickup some sandwiches for the day. Tesuque Market is a famous place for breakfast in the area and that’s the place where we are going to get some sandwiches. Turned out that the guys preparing those sandwiches were either pissed that they had to do them besides the “normal” breakfast traffic or they were simply not awake yet. Not a single order is correct and we wonder what we actually ordered when we look at the final result. Oh, by the way: Stay away from the coleslaw!!!
It takes us about 2 hours to go up to the lake. Deep down in Georgia O’Keeffe country we like a certain stretch of the road so much, that we decide to turn around and drive it again (for those who don’t get it: We have troubles finding the place with the shed where Pam and Joe’s boat is. A great opportunity to tease Joe for a little while, which is happily accepted by everyone else in the car).
We have lots of time for relaxation in the sun and enjoy the quiet setting of the lake. Every now and then we hear another boat, waterskiers or jetskis.
Frisco loves all the attention and especially likes it, when we go with over 30 mph over the water. He sticks his head up into the wind and showers the girls with wet puppy-kisses.
Pam and Joe’s zoo at home (4 dogs and 2 cats) also needs to be taken care of. So we wrap it up at about 2pm, get the boat back out of the water and drive back to Santa Fe.
The boat goes back into the shed (excellent backing the shed, Joe!) and the passangers get TCBY-iceream and milkshakes during a gas station stop.
During the drive back a discussion about Santa Fe pizza places erupts and details about restaurants that deliver to the Tano Road and Las-Campanas area are exchanged. We also decide to wrap the day up with a pizza-dinner at Pam and Joe’s place. After all the junk food we had during the day, those few calories from a pizza don’t matter any more. Pam calls one of her favorite places from the car and orders dinner which we pick up on the way back to Santa Fe.
The zoo is more than happy to see the parents come home and is especially thrilled to see the Frisco (Hoss loves new humping material!).
We eat pizza, drink some wine and beer and watch the dogs playing in the backyard.
Thanks for another great day!
