Let’s go to Cabo San Lucas (Mexico)

Oh - what a tough life: at least once a year we have to go to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. Betty and Jim own a timeshare there and it has to be used. Tough, really tough ….

So, we suffered and made Pia suffer as well. It was her first trip out of the country and everybody was wondering how she would react to the change in location and climate.

Cabo San Lucas is just a few hours from Albuquerque (with a quick stop-over in Phoenix) and luckily we are in the same timezone down there. The baby was a good girl on the way down and there was almost no fussing on the plane. People kept mentioning how cute she was and we think that this kept her calm.

We meet Pamela and Edwina (;-) in Phoenix. They came in from Philadelphia the same day and we share a plane to Cabo San Lucas.

Once in Cabo we have to travel for another hour to our final destination: The Resort Playa Grande.

Playa Grande is on the Pacific Ocean side (south), roughly where you see the “Terra Sol Beach Resort” on the map above (”borrowed” from http://www.allaboutcabo.com). This has the advantage that it is a bit out of town and thus more quiet than in central areas. But it also has the disadvantage that you can’t go into the Ocean. Warning-signs all over the place tell you about a dangerous rip-current wish would drag you all the way to China.

Here are Pam and Edwin in front of one of the warning signs on the beach:

And here’s the matching surf on a late afternoon:

The resort itself is consists of a number of large buildings around a central pool area. There is still lots of construction going on (mainly for the new lobby), but it looks like it’s gonna be finished when we go there next time.

Here we look from the balcony of one of the newer buildings over the central area.

We stay in a Penthouse in the building on the far right in the picture above. I has a nice wrap-around balcony with views over the central area and the Pacific Ocean.

Betty and Jim arrive soon after us from their direct flight from the Bay Area.

The next week is spent with sweet nothingness: sleeping in until 6:30am (we have a baby in the room); hanging out at the pool; sampling the drink-selection during 2-for-1 happy hour from 3:30pm-5:30pm; strolling around town and having some excellent dinners in town.

Pia likes the constant attention from all family members and also seems to enjoy the warm weather, especially when she can hang out in the pool.

Mommy and Daddy take Pia along the beach (when the wind allows for a walk on the beach) and show her a dead flying fish in the sand (before the seagulls discover it).

While Cabo is known as a Spring Breaker town with a nite-life that seems to be optimized for the cheapest buzz in the least amount of time, Cabo also has some of the most excellent dinner places. Among our favorites are Nix-San a killer sushi place with the most awesome fried-mussels-filled-with-seafood-thing and Edith’s with the finest Mexican food and strongest Margaritas (thanks again, Edwin!)

I’m alo glad to report that Candice did not turn into a shrimp during this trip, although she managed to eat massive amounts of them at a place called “Shrimp Factory” (it was the butter-sauce).

After a week it’s all over and three parties depart for Cupertino, Philadelphia and Santa Fe. Sisterly love keeps Candice from starvation:

Betty and Jim, thanks for letting us stay with you - Pam and Edwin, very happy seeing the two of you together and meeting “the one” - sounds like the next chapter will be written Thanksgiving ….

Hey! Great vacation journal as always Tobi. I’m currently at the hospital wishing that I were somewhere else. Nothing like 32 degree weather in Philly to make you wish you were on vacation again!

Hi guys! It was great meeting you. I had a great time. I particularly enjoyed Tobi’s baby moves (Oh, the baby almost fell in the pool! Oh, I almost dropped the baby! Oh, I loss control of the stroller!). Candice, your parents are wonderful. They are youthful and fun. I love Tobi’s sense of humor. Can’t wait for November.

Hey everyone! Cabo was fun! I can’t wait to go again in November and do the same things over and over again! Edwin, it was great meeting you! You already feel like part of the family! Nothing like spending an entire week w/ the “clan” to convince you that we are all nutty! And Tobi, super pictures and travel journal–as usual! How do you find the time???? Those Pia pics are the nicest ones of all! She is the STAR! Luv Grandma

Gorgeous travelogue, Tobs! You know, with photos like that, the whole Moy clan might just show-up unannounced on A.Betty’s doormat this November!

That Pia is so precious. Her cheeks are like strawberries and cream. I just want to gnaw on them!

    Love.
