How to enjoy Grand-Grandma’s Bao-Tze
This is a practical guide for all babies and toddlers who happen to be as lucky as our little Pia to have a Grand-Grandma who also happens to be a Grand-Grand-Chef in the Chinese Cuisine.
Grand-Grandma (and Grandma to be precise) were out here in Santa Fe some weeks ago. Our pleas for plenty of Chinese food were not left unanswered.
One of the most delicious treats are Chinese Steamed Buns with meat filling. They take a long time to prepare, but the result is out of this world.
I don’t have the recipe which was used for those particular ones, but there is at least one at this location for those who are into adventures in the kitchen.
Grand-Grandma had a grand smile on her face when she saw how our little baby liked all the dishes she prepared. Everybody was surprised to hear her smacking her lips all the time.
There’s still a nice supply of Chinese food in the freezer and here are Pia’s instructions on how to enjoy the buns:
step 1: prepare for consumption of Chinese Steamed Buns; climb on kitchen table; take off socks (important!); collect as much fluid as possible in mouth region; it helps to raise shoulders in anticipation step 2: lift one bun carefully; break apart; smell contents; perform preliminary visual inspection step 3: slowly bring small quantities of buns to the mouth; insert into mouth opening; use previously collected fluids to spread food in mouth region step 4: while food still touches lips, inhale through mouth with bun covering mouth opening, this will allow for maximum sensory exposure of food particles; do not, i repeat, do not exhale (or sneeze) while food is covering mouth opening! step 5: repeat process until very last piece has been eaten, dropped on the floor or swallowed by dogs hovering around the table step 6: don’t forget to smile into daddies camera a few times; this last step is a guarantee for more food or perhaps even sweets!

Oh boy oh boy! Does she EVER love those BAO’S! I will ask Aunt Belle to get this on her computer so Great Grandma can see how much she’s loving them! So happy we were able to make “extras” for Pia! Hahaha…notice I said for PIA!
Will have to prepare to make more next time around just to SEE her eat them! Love Grammy
