Tire almost gone

It’s only been a bit over a week since I started going to the gym on a regular basis. Happy to report that the tire around my waist is almost gone :)

Chicken and egg debate unscrambled

CNN.com - Chicken and egg debate unscrambled - finally one of the biggest misteries of all times has been solved; well, sort of.

Radler - I deserve one

I just returned from the gym. It’s very hot outside and I lost a lot of fluids working out. Time to give back to the body what it lost. Luckily I happend to have a half-liter glass from Bavaria, some wheat beer and a Hansen-lemonade. Here’s a traditional Bavarian drink which I’ve enjoyed so often in beergardens around Munich. It’s called Radler. A mix of beer and lemonade, which is still very popular in Bavaria in the summer time.

Step 1: get a big glass, some beer and some lemonade

Step 2: add beer to the glass (always start with the beer, otherwise the two drinks won’t mix too well)

Step 3: add lemonade

Step 4: Prost!

Canon to halt development of film cameras

Canon to halt development of film cameras - oh my, this is huge! Just a matter of time before the other big guys (Nikon) will follow. Perhaps it’s also time to get some old Canon film gear and put it in the vault for the next 20 years. I still remember my first AE-1 that I bought about 25 years ago. That was a really nice camera then.

Move over George W Bush; ‘American Idol’ is here - oh this is soo sad. Tells you what is really important to people in this country.

Now it’s getting almost creepy

Picked up a copy of this weeks Santa Fe Reporter at the gym yesterday. I flipped through it last night and ended up reading my horoscope (which is something I haven’t done in a long time - I’m an engineer after all) and here’s what I find:

TaxProf Blog: Can You Hear Me Now? IRS to Refund $15 Billion of Telephone Taxes to Consumers

The Treasury Department and IRS announced this morning that after losing in five circuit courts of appeals, the Government is throwing in the towel and will no longer seek to enforce the 3% excise tax on long-distance telephone calls enacted during the Spanish-American War of 1898 as a “luxury” tax on wealthy Americans who owned telephones. The IRS will will issue $15 billion in refunds to consumers for long-distance telephone service taxes paid over the past three years:

Wow - I had no idea that this came from way back in 1898. Make sure you keep that in mind on your next tax return.

Movie Stars

Santa Fe seems to be loaded with movie stars these days. Just last night I went out to dinner at Santa Cafe with our old neighbour Lavi. At one point two guys sat down on the table next to us on the patio. Lavi looked over several times and said that one of the guys looks familiar. A few seconds later he mentioned that he looks like the actor from Fargo. I looked over and confirmed that it was indeed William H. Macy. And after we got a closer look at the other guy it turned out to be Tim Allen. Was happy to see that only one dinner guest bugged them with a “I love you - I don’t remember your name, but I love your movies”.
