Jurassic Park in Tesuque

Our friend above was right in front of the dog kennel when I let the dogs out this morning. Both dogs sniffed the little lizard like crazy, but always stayed a few inches away. The animal must have some sort of smell that tells the dogs to better keep some distance. Anybody know what we’re looking at?

    Very cool lizard!

My guess would be “Flat-tailed Horned Lizard”

I have no idea what this is. But I am sure that my Chinese ancestors have tossed a creature like this into their bowl of soup.

We call them “horned toads” out here, but they are actually a lizard as Daniel says. Oh, and they’ll ’squirt blood’ from their eye sockets if they get irritated enough… Smart dogs!

OMG! Yes, I just saw a Discovery program that had a “countdown” of creatures’ unique defense mechanisms. This guy makes his sinus explode (thus the blood squirting)or something like that. Bizarre! Can squirt up to a couple of feet.
