That was quite a poke …

eyesOn Saturday 12/30/2006 Pia and I went to see some friends in Munich for dinner. After a little while at the restaurant she had to go to the bathroom. The two of us walked to a stall and I sat her down on the bowl. Then she suddenly swung around and her right middle finger poked my right eye. For the next two hours I was sitting there at the table crying from my right eye and people looked at me in weird way, because my eye was getting more red every minute. After the dinner we had to take the one-hour drive from Munich back to my parents place. I had serious problems on the road: vision in my right eye was all but gone and I had to cup my hand over it several times in order to see more clearly. I left the highway and drove the country-side roads, because I did not feel safe around all the other cars.

This condition continued and after a few days I went to see an eye doctor in Germany. The doctor diagnosed no severe issues and told me that the eye was just bruised severly.

Back in the Santa Fe, I got a second opinion from my regular eye doctor (which by the way is “Accent on Vision”, a delightful and very friendly crowd). Again, I heard that I have to give it some time. My whole eye-ball was out of shape and water retained in there would have to drain for a few weeks.

Today is the first day where I think my vision is coming back to what it used to be. That’s about 5 weeks after the accident. I still think vision in the right eye is only at about 80% of what it used to be, but we are making progress.

Perhaps it’s time to wear safety goggles around Pia …
