Kudos to the Santa Fe County
Holy moly! I’m usually not good when it comes to dealing with the City, County, State, Government in general - something always seems to go wrong or I get the feeling that I’m running in circles like a gerbil.
Yesterday I posted an entry about some privacy concerns with the County’s new Property Tax lookup service. Turns out that all the information returned by the service is indeed public.
Somebody from the Santa Fe County (Domingo) read the story on my blog and was especially interested in the sentence where I say that my current (new) address does not resolve in the system. He left a message on the entry and provided a valid return-email-address. I contacted him afterwards and explained my situation: just moved, new subdivision, new home, etc.
A few hours later one of his friendly colleagues (Angie) contacts me out of the blue, following up to my email and stating that they had a different address from me in the system. And on top of that she provides some names/numbers where I should verify/correct the situation.
Some back and forth with another county employee (Paul) and I receive the plat that records my property as “3 Loma de la Vida”. Hmmm - that does not look right, because all my official documents say “6 Loma de la Vida”. I talked to the builder and he indeed has another plat that shows that the property address is the later one. Then about an hour ago, I get another call from the county (Mark), who confirms that I can keep the address that we’ve been using all along. Everything’s dandy and the county will make the necessary corrections on their end.
5 mins after hanging up, Mark calls again and says that the 911-address for my new home has not been updated and that it still points to the Tesuque property. He will file a request to get that changed as well.
Domingo, Paul, Angie, Mark - thanks to all four of you. That was a most pleasant experience! Enjoy your weekends (and vacation)!
Tobias,
It’s so nice to see some positive remarks for us county workers. Times are demanding and we will always strive for customer satisfaction. We do try our very best to make the Office of the County Assessor a friendly and helpful office.
Thank you for the kind words and coffee soon!!
