Tent Rocks – reloaded – again
As mentioned in an earlier post today, I went to Tent Rocks again yesterday morning. Heidi had never been there so I decided to show her one of the miracles of NM so close to Santa Fe. We arrived shortly after 10am on Saturday morning. Perfect timing: just a few cars in the parking lot, temperatures were still only in the 70s and we had a slightly overcast sky. Unlike previous visits I decided to make this a one-lens-no-gadgets trip – didn’t want to lug the tripod around and occupy myself with constantly changing lenses: I brought my Canon 1D-MkII along with the Tamron 20-40mm wide-angle lens and, because we had some nice cloud cover, I decided to bring the Polarizer as well.
I seriously lost count how often I’ve been there and how many photographs I’ve taken at this place, but I’m always amazed when I look at the results back home: the same scenery photographed at different times with different skies looks completely differently to me.
It took us a bit over an hour to make our way to the very top. We passed only a handful of people on the way up:
On the way back down I saw this dead tree right between two rock formations. Unfortunately I was hard to photograph from the path and I carried my sweaty, tired body up the sandy hill to get a better shot:
The sky was just lovely.
And this has got to be one of my favorites of the day: love the gentle touch with shadow and the curves all over the photo ![]()
