50″ x 30″ !!!
I have this huge empty wall in my home office. It needs to be filled with something. Initially I had planned to make another patch-work of photos for that wall, but then about a week ago I decided differently.
I called some places in Santa Fe and asked if they provide large-format prints. Just yesterday Get Printing (formerly GetType) confirmed that they recently received a new Epson large-format printer and that they can provide prints with a maximum width of 45″ (there’s [almost] no restriction on how long the print can be). You are getting charged by the square foot! During my lunch break yesterday, I dropped off a 120MB PDF file which was generated from a 50″ x 30″, 300dpi, 800MB Photoshop CMYK file. I used the photo below, because it’s one of my favorites:
Yes, it will be pixelated (tried to smooth it as much as possible in Photoshop) and yes, it will be grainy, but I think it will look awesome on this big empty wall.
I suspect that the print is ready later today and then I need to find a place that can mount the print on something like foam-core. If you happen to have any suggestions where to get it mounted, please drop me a line.
Update 1/11-2pm: Just picked up the print at Get Printing and it looks great. By far not as pixelated/noisy as expected (I think it helped to juggle the 800MB PSD file for a while). Also dropped it off at Valdes just around the corner from Get Printing. They are going to mount it on foam-core and add a few hangers to it. Early next week I’m going to pick it up and place it smack in the middle on that big empty wall - there you have it wall!
