Feedjit confirms: Upper West hates kahunaburger!
On a recent analysis of kahunaburger’s front page load time (using the indispensable Charles), I discovered that Clustrmaps was responsible for a large chunk of the time wasted on getting the content of the main page.
I yanked it out and looked for a replacement, because I really like to get an idea where visitors are coming from. Yes, Google Analytics provides the same information, but it’s way easier to have it right in your face on the front-page, instead of having to login Analytics.
I gave Feedjit a try and it seems to fit the bill: response time is better than Clustrmaps and on top of it, it provides a nice Google Maps based view of recent visitors.
However, the shocking news is that the Upper West does not seem to like kahunaburger at all! Need to find topics that interest the crowd up there …

Hi… we’re curious (and surprised) to hear your comments about ClustrMaps: we take great pride in our speed (all maps are pre-computed, and the images are tiny) and scalability (ability to show huge numbers of dots because of our special clustering algorithm), not to mention keeping up with our users’ experiences by ‘beaming in’ to blog postings like this!
Have you tried substituting the default code option [A] with the more compact option [B] shown when you log in to your admin page? In any event, the thumbnail map is only a small jpg image, with all the dots pre-computed in our nightly runs, so I’m wondering what the actual culprit is. We’re more than happy to help track this down in greater detail, but we’ve got hundreds of thousands of users without such a problem, so we’re very keen to get to the bottom of this!
Don’t hesitate to email us directly, or respond here in the blog. In any case, for your troubles we’ll also upgrade you for free to ClustrMaps+ status.
Many thanks for persevering.
