Bye bye Qwest – hello again Vonage

I just completed the next step in my quest to reduce my monthly expenses. Every month I was paying around $70 for my phone line. I’m not a big talker on the phone and I probably make about 30 personal calls per month and three times as many work-related calls. Every other week I call my parents back in Germany and I had a special feature on my Qwest plan that made calls to Germany a bit less expensive.

Here’s are the latest charges from Qwest:

Every month I had to pay this bill, I was wondering why I was doing it. The new wireless Internet connection has worked flawlessly for the last few months and I decided to give Vonage another try.

Yesterday evening the little Vonage adapter arrived and I also received notice that my phone number was successfully transferred to their network. This morning I installed the adapter and hooked up the phone to it. Everything worked as expected and a minute after I plugged in the device, I made my first phone call. People I talked to since then tell me that the line is loud and clear. Someone actually said that it seems to work better than the Qwest line before.

And the best thing? I’m saving about $40 a month and can make unlimited local/long-distance calls and unlimited calls to 17 countries around the world including Germany :)

Dish Network, you are next on the list …

Are you sure it isn’t because you’re getting a little older, and maybe shouting a bit? 8-)

What? WHAT DID YA SAY? You need to use ALL-CAPS if you want to get through to me :-)

Is Skype an alternative to talk with your parents, it’s what we do with the relatives sin Honduras…

I used Skype before with parents, but we never had a really good connection: too much delay, dropped parts of the sentences, etc. We still use Skype for video-connections every once in a while and that seems to work well enough.
