EarthBox
Now that the seeds in the kitchen have turned into tiny plants (I’ll post a photo later), it’s time to think about the final location for those little guys. I went to Jackalope and Santa Fe Greenhouses yesterday to look for flower-boxes that could be attached to the railing in the back of the house. Both of them did not have anything suitable – have to check out a few more places in town.
However, while I was at Santa Fe Greenhouses, I saw this gardening kit called “Earthbox“. It’s a big plastic box that gets filled with potting mix, some nutrients and a few seedlings of your choice. There’s a cover on top of the box, which makes the EarthBox a closed system. Water is added through a watering tube on one side and a screen at the bottom (plus an overflow hole) makes sure you can’t over-water the box.

Think I’m going to give this one a try. I know I should be buying local, but I can’t justify the very hefty premium that Santa Fe Greenhouses adds over the manufacturer’s price …
