My name is Bob – Bob Cat!
Did I ever tell you the story about my accidental bobcat photo? Well, here it comes anyway: when we still lived in California, I used to take my camera and head to the open area next to the ex parents-in-law property to take some photographs. I have massive amounts of mediocre shots from that period, but also a few really nice ones.
One late February afternoon in 2001 I took my Canon D30 with a 100mm macro lens and headed out there again. I was on all fours looking at tiny stuff when I noticed some movement in the grass next to me. When I looked up I saw Mr. Bob Cat just getting up from it’s resting place, because I had come a bit too close for comfort. I aimed the camera at it and snapped a few photos. Once I realized that the camera was still in manual focus, I fixed that and took another batch of photos. By that time the cat had twice the distance from me than before.
Here’s one of the shots:

Fast forward to July 2009. On the morning of the 5th I find an email with the title “You won’t believe these pics!” from Betty (ex mother-in-law) in my inbox. I look at the photos and can’t believe my eyes. There was my Mr. Bob Cat (or a sibling, descendant) resting on the counter of the open-air kitchen. That extra outside living space was added a few years ago, but bobcat seems to approve of it:

There were a few more shots and Betty tells me that the bobcat seen on other occasions. What’s really amazing about these is the fact that their home is right in over-crowded, heavy-trafficked Cupertino …

So glad you included the history of this little creature than seems to like this part of town. He’s made himself very comfy around here but luckily he stays away when there are people outside. Everyone who has seen my pictures are worried now when we’re out back. I have to reassure them that he (or she) doesn’t want to join the party.
