How low … eh … high can you go?
You know the story about ultrasonic ringtones on cell phones? It allows teenagers to get notifications that only young people can hear. Older folks (commonly referred to as “teachers”) don’t hear those ultrasonic noises and thus the cell phone ring/notification goes unnoticed.
In a write up on lifehacker about the very same subject, they linked to a site (http://www.ultrasonic-ringtones.com/) that provides a small range of ultrasonic noises for download or direct playback. Out of curiosity I went there and clicked my way up starting from 8kHz only to discover that 14.9kHz seems to be the end for me. The weird thing was that I heard something at 16.7kHz – everything else is as silent as Cheney in front of a Senate Committee.
PS: do make sure that the dogs are not in the room when you go all the way to 22.4kHz …
